Dental Insurance

Individual Dental plans generally cover Preventative Procedures immediately, such as:

  • Routine Check-Ups
  • Cleanings
  • X-Rays, etc.

Most individual dental plans cover some Major Procedures such as:

  • Oral surgery
  • Prosthodontics (crowns, bridges, and dentures)
  • Endodontics (root canals)
  • Periodontics

However, they are typically covered until the plan has been active for 12 months, and are usually covered at 50% of the costs.

There is generally a $50 deductible that you must pay, after which the plan will cover a percentage of the costs until the policy reaches its annual maximum. In some plans the percentage that the insurance company will pay is 80% and the maximum they will pay is a fixed dollar amount typically ranging from $1,000 and $2,500.


Most vision plans include an annual eye exam with a co-pay of about $15. Most plans also offer up to a $100 frame allowance for a minimum co-pay and 20% off the remaining balance. And many will also provide basic lenses for a minimum co-pay.

Contact lenses are usually covered for an additional charge of around $50.
